How to Fix the "Lane Closed" Error on a Shift4 Terminal?

Is your Shift4 credit card terminal showing the "Lane Closed" message? Follow these simple steps to restart the Shift4 UTG2 service and get your terminal back online.

Note: This guide applies only to Shift4 merchant accounts using Lane 3000, Lane 3600, Lane 5000, Lane 7000, or Lane 8000 terminals. 

Steps: 

  1. On the computer connected to the terminal, open Services.
  2. Click Run as administrator. Find the Shift4 UTG2 service.
  3. If the service is stopped, click Start. If it is running, click Restart.
  4. Wait for the terminal to restart automatically.
  5. When "Powered by Shift4" appears on the terminal screen, try processing a transaction.
  6. Done! Your terminal should now be ready to process payments.
